This registration is valid for a full six months and allows for multiple entries, meaning you can pop in for a two-week holiday or use it for multiple shorter visits. According to this policy, if you are transiting through major Chinese cities like Shanghai, Beijing, or Guangzhou and your layover is less than 24 hours, then you do not need a visa. Even though this applies only to the ‘airport transit’ area, you can apply for a temporary entry permit at the airport passport control to leave the airport for a quick city tour.
